If you’ve recently seen little green and yellow squares all over your Facebook and Instagram feeds and wondered what they could be, you’ve probably come across wordle– the viral word puzzle game that has taken the internet by storm!
What exactly is Wordle and how do you play it?
Wordle works on a simple concept. Every day the game developers release a mysterious 5-letter word and players get six attempts to guess it. The tiles change color to help you type the word. If the tile turns gray, it means that letter is not in today’s word. A yellow tile means the letter is in the word but is in the wrong position. If the tile turns green, it means it is in the word AND in the right place. When you guess the whole word, all tiles turn green! You can play it for free on the NY Times website. Play Wordle here!
What makes the game so addictive is the fact that it’s only a 5 minute distraction once a day, and the whole world gets the same word at once!
A puzzle for math geeks!
If words aren’t really your thing, and you’d rather spend your coffee break exercising your math brain, there’s also Mathler, which replaces letters with numbers and operations. Unlike Wordle, Mathler gives you the answer right from the start. The challenge is to find the equation that will lead to the answer using the numbers 0-9 and the four basic operations (=, -, *, /). This can be slightly more difficult than Wordle, especially if you’re not good with numbers. Check your Mathler skills!
You need a combination of luck and logic to get the puzzle right in both cases. Are you a blacksmith or a numbers nerd? Join the rest of the world in their madness and show us your superpower!
